Production plants, Production, Planed products, Quality management

Our production of processed wood products is tailored, to order, for Europe’s most demanding customers. Half the wood is further processed into planed products, and half into grades, dimensions and lengths to customer specifications. To meet customer requirements for continuity of supplies, we produce and deliver all the year round.

Oriented toward entrepreneurs, consumers as well as building supply warehouses in the region.

Production
Once having been barked, the log comes into the saw where it is measured three-dimensionally, and all the information is processed and presented to experienced operators.
The log’s structure and quality are then assessed by the staff.

The log is classified in one of three basic grades of quality for various markets. Windows, mouldings and for the turning industry - the furniture, panels, floors and stairs industry – the builders merchant market with products such as construction timber, duckboards, joists and laths.
By-products such as wood chips, shavings and bark are used in the paper industry and for bioenergy.

After cutting the wood and before drying it, we sort the wood into different quality grades in accordance with the demands of our customers as regards the quality and level of drying required for the products.

After cutting and board stacking we dry the timber in 29 modern and highly efficient timber dryers. We dry the timber from 7-18%, depending on the requirements of the customer and what the timber is to be used for. Our dryers have a state-of-the-art control system and highpressure steaming with hot water for ensuring even humidity and a high level of quality in the dried timber. All the timber which goes through the trimming plant or the planing mill automatically passes through an ‘on-line’ gauge for measuring the humidity level, and the values registered for all the pieces of wood then help to optimise the drying programmes.

Cleaving and gradient tests are carried out continually in the drying lab, and all these factors together help to ensure that the results of the drying process are always satisfactory for the particular product in question. After the drying process, the timber is sorted according to its quality and length. The final quality of the sawn timber is established here, and it is then ready either for further processing in our own plant or for delivery to the end customer.
Our production equipment includes a Holtec chainsaw which enables the sawn timber to be cut at a very reasonable price. Precision +-2 mm.

Three planing mills - a WACO Maxi and two WACO 3000s - are involved in the refining process. These machines have nine spindles and make it possible for us to produce most of the profiles found on the market with a very high quality finish.

The other machinery involved includes end jointing, precisions cutting of lengths, length measurement, spray marking, labelling together with bifoliation and bundling. To enable us to deliver exactly the level of quality the customer expects, we have equipment to cut away faults in the structure of the wood, both before and after the planing process, and to sort the wood into up to five grades of quality. We have our own equipment for sanding wood and our employees are experienced, so we are continuously able to maintain a highquality finish on the planed wood.

A large amount of shavings from planing and cleaving are produced during the production process in our four planing mills. These dry materials are passed through a closed system leading directly to the production hall for pellets and shavings bales. In this production area we sift out the larger shavings from the finer shavings, and the larger shavings are then baled in 25 kg bales on pallets for animal bedding, whilst the finer shavings are mixed with some larger shavings and made into pellets.
The pellets can be supplied in 600 and 800 kg sacks and 16 kg sacks packed on pallets.

Planed products
We can offer a variety of different profiles, sizes and lengths in our range of planed products. The quality classification of the products is adapted to suit the individual customer or a specific market. All the products in our range are produced using efficient machinery in a rational way. This should be to the benefit of our customers in the form of good products and a wide range of products at competitive prices. The range of processed wood includes for example finger jointing and planed, exactly cut products, where we are able to achieve both stability, straightness and minimum waste considering range of application the products have.

Exterior, surface-treated panels can be found in many different shapes and grades of quality on the market. We have chosen to only use suppliers known for their good paints, and a method of painting which guarantees an optimal end result. All our exterior panels are available either with just a priming coat or with several coats, according to the customer’s requirements.
The exterior panels are carefully dried between each coat of paint, to ensure it adheres properly to the panels, and to ensure the quality of the finished products. The panels can be treated with solventbased paint. As part of our quality control we record the end result of all the products that are surface treated. We have a wide range of waterproof products. Girders and duckboards are our primary products, but we have a complete range of panels, laths and sizes which are often used in marine constructions.

We are able to pressure-creosote in accordance with classes CCA-A, CCA-marine and Volmanit CX-8 Classes A and AB, which is the new more environmentally-friendly waterproofing method. All waterproofing is undertaken in accordance with NTR’s rules for the pressure-creosoting of timber.

As regards our range of interior panels we can provide a great number of standard pro- files and have the necessary machinery to produce custom-made profiles efficiently. In the case of tongue and groove panels, there is less waste and better performance. Our range also includes interior panels which have been surface treated with polished white liquor. We can also supply panels with an all-over, water-based surface coating on interior panels.

In our component production we can cut off sawn and planed wood with two cross-cutting machines, System TM with a scanner, pith turner, curve feeding and moisture contentent measurement, together with a PAUL cutting plant with a PAUL component cutting machine. In production we can transport the sawn components in a closed flow straight into a WACO bandsaw for cleaving and to a ten-spindle Ledermac Speedmac component plane with precision cutting, of the double-chute type and sorting facilities for the quality after planing.

In production we can handle lengths of between 200 mm - 2500 mm at a maximum speed of 120 metres/minute. In the System TM cutting plant we can detect the whole structure of the wood in detail using camera optics and thus in collaboration with the customers improve the quality required for the further application of our timber.

We have also a finger joint machine which is a Dimter short-length furniture joint with facilities to join lengths of up to 6000 mm. By making use of the finger jointing functions which allow us to use short lengths of wood, we are able to cut away all faults in the wood, but we still manage to provide the right length of wood for the particular product. The ability to also join any wasted wood which comes about due to the high standards and expectations of the finished products means that we are able to utilise both the wood and further processing very cost-effectively.

Using the Ledermac Speedmac ten-spindle precision component moulding machine allows us to produce various types of wood of a high standard as regards the finish on all four sides. The machine’s cutting head has a wide diameter, high speed spindles with double bearings and honing on all four sides. This makes for very flexible production with a high standard of finish and efficiency. The fully-automated peripheral equipment has been adapted to fit the plane’s capacity.

We currently produce finished wooden components in many different degrees of processing at the right price levels, with the customer in focus. Production is carried out in highly efficient production facilities with fast flows, short resetting times and a high level of competency amongst our employees.
